Newest Location: Out Of The Park Pizza!

We’re happy to add yet another establishment to our growing roster!  Out Of The Park Pizza is a family owned and operated restaurant in Anaheim just off the 91 Freeway.  If you know the place, you’ll understand the excitement.

We will launch Team Trivia Monday April, 23rd!

You’ll find creative and unique pizzas like the “Big Slider,” “Idachokeyou” and traditional fare along with great appetizers and salads to round out their delicious offerings.

OC PopQuiz! refuses to host at locations with shoddy tap lists and our new spot sports beer that holds to their name sake.  Featuring 30+ rotating taps there is always something for everyone to enjoy.  Match that up with exciting Home Brewer nights, Karaoke, in-house Buzztime Trivia and a spacious arcade, this is one of the best places to relax in Orange County.

Valentine’s Day Theme Game

ReBooting Sunday Nights at the Orange Dog!

After a professional football induced break, Team Trivia will once again take off at the Orange Dog Bar & Grill.

Beginning Sunday, February 12th! 

Since our hiatus, the Orange Dog has had quite an overhaul.  The bar’s layout, staff, and menu have all been greatly improved.  These are all changes teams will appreciate, yet our game remains the same!

To welcome OC PopQuiz! fans back to one of our original locations, we will be awarding $100 worth of prizes on our debut night!

$20 to the Runner Up

&

$50 cash and $30 of Orange Dog Dollars to our winner!

We will see you every Sunday at 8pm starting the week after the ‘Big Game.’  Our Monthly Tournament, with a $75 cash payout will start in March!

BRIX Update!

As our Trivia experience grows and evolves we strive to keep our game in step, moving forward.

Thusly, the aforementioned ”Perfect Game Payout” has been altered to make it more clear and perhaps attainable.  A $200 bounty was posted at the beginning of 2012 and now boasts a total of $260. Every Tuesday $20 will be added to the escalating prize payout.

How does a team leave BRIX slightly richer? Accomplishing a feat that Solomon, Einstein and  Hawking dared not attempt… score 55 points or more at Brix and the prize is yours.

How will you go about claiming the prize? Diligence, perseverance, and at least a bottle of wine would be my prescription for victory.

Debut at Slater’s 50/50 Anaheim Hills

OC PopQuiz! could not have been happier than to add yet another location to our lineup!

We got the call from the Brass at Slater’s 50/50 after a few successful months hosting at their Huntington Beach spot.  They invited us to introduce our brand of Team Trivia at their flagship store in Anaheim Hills.

Sitting just off Imperial Highway, this is the restaurant you may have seen on Travel Channel’s Bacon Paradise.  The place where the magic spell enchants bacon lovers.  Ground Zero of the Bacon Explosion.  And now, every Wednesday at 9:00, the masses will test the needless facts clogging their brains as they Eat, Drink and Think with OC PopQuiz!

CA$H GAME$ on Tuesdays!

Beginning in December we will be launching a cash game at our favorite Sunset Beach spot!

Head out with your friends and for just a nominal fee, you have the chance to take down a Cash Prize!  No more $30 gift certificates, just cold hard cash (or room temperature, cotton-paper blend currency).  Your choice.

We’re raising the stakes over at BRIX.  Brainiacs already know to come out to enjoy fine wine and the East Coast inspired menu.  The less sophisticated are content to choose from their impressive rotating craft beers.  At 7:30 the tasting room turns into a battleground and after we give away a couple glasses of wine, or maybe a bottle, teams attack with full force.  But starting December 6th, players will have multiple chances to leave with a little more green than they came with.  Not only will first place take home the pooled cash prize, but there will be a 50/50 raffle with two winners.  The lucky player with the winning ticket will win half the pot and the other half will be donated to their choice from a list of charities.

Need more incentive to bring our the best and the brightest?

We will be kicking off a NEW escalating prize.  Each Tuesday at BRIX, a minimum of $10 will accumulate towards a growing lump sum awarded to the team with a perfect game.  It’s rare in the Major Leagues and we have yet to see it in OC PopQuiz! competition, but the promise of a big payout may be the push to see the unthinkable achieved.

So scrape a couple quarters together and try to turn them into something bigger at BRIX!

One Door Closes, Another Door Opens

We are sadden to inform all you Trivia fans that we will be cancelling Sunday night Team Trivia at the Orange Dog Bar & Grill.  After 6 months of fun we will be focusing on our game at the Longboard Restaurant & Pub.

There is happy news too!  This Tuesday marks our first of many more games to come in Irvine!  We are starting a weekly Cash Game at the Anthill Pub, on campus at UCI!  A buy-in of $2 per player will be thrown into the prize pot.  With a maximum of 6 players per team, the Anteaters and guests will duke it out for a lion’s share of the prize money.  Second place teams will receive 20% of the pot and third place teams will take 10%.

If you’ve never been to the Anthill, do yourself a favor and head out this Tuesday, October 4th!  There you’ll find 25 or so wonderful craft beers all under $5 and a stellar menu priced for the grad student’s budget.  The Anthill does craft beer without the pretentiousness of other brew bars, while staying away from the Dive Bar mentality.  The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, giving the bar great balance and making it a perfect location for OC PopQuiz! to come in and do our thang!

New Location & New Sponsor

OC PopQuiz! is proud to announce Rockin’ Crepes has joined our line-up.  We debuted over there Monday, September 26th. The gathered crowd didn’t care about what the two terrible NFC East teams were doing on national TV. They were there for Team Trivia!

We will be at Rockin’ Crepes Monday nights starting at 8:00 pm. So pop into this HB secret spot for a musically inspired batch of OC PopQuiz. Located at Magnolia + Atlanta this cozy restaurant serves up a unique menu in an heavy metal atmosphere . The fine French delicacies of the namesake aren’t the only highlight on the menu! Need a fondue fix? Forget the hassle at home! Let the staff set  your team up with one of their sweet or savory combinations.  But be careful that same staff may defend their store’s honor by getting into the game.

“Quadruple or Negative” became the first ever winners at Rockin’ Crepes fighting to the end and outlasting the competition.  We hope everyone can come out to enjoy the great food as well as a night of temple scratching team trivia!

In other spicier news… OC PopQuiz! is proud to announce a new sponsor.  Huntington Beach based and dedicated Flavor Improvement Society members Gringo Bandito have joined our cause! Labor Day Weekend

Hello all you triviaistas!  We here at OC PopQuiz! want to wish everyone a happy (and safe) 3-day weekend.  Go out and enjoy the many barbeques and gatherings with friends and family this weekend.  If you’re out late Friday or Saturday, you might even catch Niki or Doug watching the “parade” from The Longboard Restaurant & Pub.  With that said, there are a few updates we need to let everyone know about heading into this weekend.

We originally had planned to be off Sunday and Monday this week, however there has been a slight change.  We are on for Sunday, September 4th.  I repeat.  THERE WILL BE TRIIVA on Sunday at the Orange Dog Bar and Grill.  Trivia will start at the normal time, which is 8:00 p.m.  However, as we originally planned, there WILL NOT be trivia on Monday night.  Then, we are back on our regular schedule (Tuesday the 6th @ Brix and Wednesday the 7th @ Slater’s 50/50 in HB).

IMPORTANT SCHEDULE CHANGE: After this coming week’s run of trivia, there is a schedule change that people need to be aware of.  Because Monday Night Football runs late, trivia will now be running at both The Longboard Restaurant & Pub AND the Orange Dog Bar and Grill on Sunday nights!  This wasn’t our optimal course of action, but we’re going to make the best of it.  Expect both places to be packed with football fans AND trivia fans!  This double booking will only be for the five months of football season and then we plan to move the Longboard back to Monday nights.

CASH PRIZES (TOURNAMENT) UPDATE: As most of you know, our monthly tournament is changing heading into September.  With the exception of Brix Brews, we will be giving $75 cash money away to the team with the most accumulated points at each individual bar.  This means that if you can only come every Wednesday night in September, and your team accumulates the most points out of any team at Slater’s 50/50, you win the Slater’s $75 cash prize.  Same goes for The Longboard and the Orange Dog.  However, we expect to see all of you every night because let’s face it, we all know how much fun trivia is!!!  Thanks for reading the long post, and like always, if you have any questions, feel free to shoot us an e-mail.

Moving Nights & Modifying our Monthly Tournament

We here at OC PopQuiz! have a few announcements to let everyone know about! The first order of business is that we are moving the night that we are appearing at The Longboard Restaurant & Pub.  We used to be there on Mondays, however, starting on September 11th, we will be at “the Board’ on Sunday nights.  I’m sure everyone is asking themselves, “What about Sunday night football?”  Well, OC PopQuiz! will be setting up at the beginning of the 4th quarter.  We’ll be schmoozing with the crowd and reminding people about trivia during most commercial breaks.  Heck, we might even do some giveaways as well.  Regardless of what happens during the 4th quarter, trivia will begin immediately when the game is over.  So set your alarms, mark your calendars, and remember to plan on exercising your brain on Sunday nights at The Longboard Restaurant & Pub.

The next order of business is that we are making some changes to our Monthly Tournament.  Before, we were giving away a $100 cash prize to the team with the most cumulative points across all of our locations.  With the recent addition of Brix Brews and Slater’s 50/50, we will be modifying our giveaway.  We now will be giving away $75 in cold, hard cash to the winning team from EACH bar (except Brix because we are still on a trial basis).  The team with the most points at the end of the month at The Longboard, Orange Dog, and Slater’s will each win $75.  In addition, our standings page will have separate standings for each of those three locations.  Hope this makes everyone happy and we continue to see all of you on a regular basis!
